Florida’s Largest Cement Plant to Increase Production
The Florida Department of Environmental Protection approved a 37% increase in the production of clinker at Titan America's Pennsuco plant on December 1, 2005. This will enable cement production to increase to 2.4 million tons per year, serving Florida’s growing needs. The facility is the largest in Florida, the cleanest in the state and one of the world’s most modern cement plants.
When it opened in June 2004, the new cement plant in Medley doubled its former capacity without raising emissions, and helped supply a booming Florida construction market hampered by product shortages and imports dependency.
"Titan America put environmental concerns up front when we designed this new plant," said Hardy Johnson, President of Titan America’s Florida Business. “Robotic and remote sensors help us minimize emissions, and we recycle heat, dust and water. Other procedures reduce nitrous oxides. We even recycle leftover materials returned by our customers.” Numerous projects planned in 2006-07 will enable the plant to ramp up to its approved production level.
Titan America LLC is one of the premier cement and building materials producers in the Eastern United States, headquartered in Norfolk, Va. Titan America operates all the US assets for its parent company, Titan Cement Company, S.A., headquartered in Athens, Greece.
